Let’s look at some facts:

Boards have never been more skilled, diverse and professional
Over the past 30 years, hundreds of studies have sought to define and measure the exact nature of what makes boards great
Specialised governance programs – informed by the world’s most experienced directors, executives and academics – educate tens of thousands of directors every year.

Despite all this, most boards and executives continue to struggle with many of the same issues as they did 20 years ago. How do we find an effective balance between operations and strategy in the boardroom? How do we keep boards well-informed without overburdening them? How can we ensure that all of our diverse voices can be safely expressed and taken into careful consideration?

The fact that these problems have proven so difficult to solve illustrates a clear opportunity for increased experimentation in the boardroom. In this session, governance geeks Matt Fullbrook and Paul Smith will demonstrate why and how boards should come together with a more experimental mindset. Embracing curiosity and unconventional strategies will unlock any board’s true value.

Learning objectives:

Explore what good governance really means

Propose a scientifically-rooted framing for enhanced board effectiveness

Model new, practical “interventions" that will bring value to any board
